But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

He saved four early break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
